Welcome to the Hillwalking Bookshop

We have a vast selection of books covering everything from mountaineering and hillwalking safety, mountain navigation, through to mountaineering literature - everything from Joe Simpson to Wainwright. Not only that but we have Ordnance Survey Landranger and Explorer Maps in our Maps Sections. We even have the occasional mountaineering or hillwalking related DVD lurking around in our shop too!

To navigate about the shop, simply follow the links down the right hand side of the screen.

Navigation for Walkers

Navigation for Hillwalkers

Our most popular book of late is "Navigation for Walkers" . According to The Times - "Will embolden even total duffers". Given 5 stars by people who bought it from Amazon, this book offers the perfect grounding in the essential skill of navigation whilst being easy to understand.

Put your GPS back in box and dust off the compass and read this book!

"Mountaincraft and Leadership"

Considered by some to be the "Bible" of mountaineering, this was the course book for the old Mountain Leader Awards. Revised and updated this book goes in to a great deal of detail about individual and group safety on the mountains - but its no substitute for getting out there and getting the experience by doing it!

The First Fifty - Munro Bagging without a Beard

The First Fifty - Munto Bagging without a Beard

Back in the 1990's (it sounds such a long time ago!), the impish Muriel Gray wrote this book to accompany "The Munro Show". Both were radical departures for the time - a woman talking about and doing hillwalking - perish the thought! More so when she was a former presenter of Channel Four's "The Tube" .

Re-visit this autobiographical fresh take on hillwalking.

Maps for Hillwalking

Ben Nevis Ordnance Survey Landranger Map
We are lucky in Britain to have such an excellent mapping service in the form of the Ordnance Survey. From the all purpose Ordnance Survey Landranger maps which cover the country at a scale of 1:50,000 through to the more detailed Ordnance Survey Explorer Maps which cover the ground on greater detail at 1:25,000.
Ben Nevis Ordnance Survey Explorer Map

Both are ideal for hillwalking, though in rough terrain, say around the top of Ben Nevis, you may appreciate the greater detail present in an Ordnance Survey Explorer map.
